My first Flamingo to take to the Surf.....

So recently a friend of mine decided it was time for a new board, a little smaller, a little lighter and I was delighted when she asked me if I could design her a flamingo to stand proudly on the front of her new stick.
I got straight to work on the design and we mulled over ideas for a while before deciding on the shape, feathers and colour of the new bird.
Here is the final design which was emailed to Diplock boards on Friday. It's going to be printed onto a light tissue paper and put on the board between glassing. I think I'm just as excited as Emily is to see the outcome of the design. Ill post up a picture as soon as its done!

Flamingo Girl

The top image is my new favorite photograph of a Flamingo (wish I could say it was mine!), really need to get out there and take some more of my own soon! I've been playing around with my designs a bit cropping them in and changing them. Trying to create new patterns to add to my new work. Which I will be posting up soon!

Day off to recover....

Who would have thought that spending a day at home in bed under the covers with a big mug of tea would be so inspirational! I've never really taken the time to look closely at all things around me, things I've collected traveling, been given by friends and just had to buy at antique fairs or junk shops. While snuggling up in my duvet today I noticed the lovely patterns the dyes make in the colours of my cover and the little doodle patterns over the top and started to think maybe this is where some of my inspiration has been coming from. I noticed how similar the style of drawing over ink spills is to my current work, maybe somewhere in my subconscious I have noted this. I then started to do a bit of research.... (what else is there to do when its rainy outside) I found some drawings I did way before I got the duvet cover, they too have similar doodles on and then I just hit the jackpot! I have been leafing through a draw I have not looked in for a very long time and found a Kangaroo I drew when i was around 15 and it looks like I could have drawn it yesterday! Same style as my Flamingos!! How very strange that without being conscious of it I have always been interested in the same patterns and style. Just when I was starting to feel a little lost with my work, It's nice to know I've come full circle with it. I've rediscovered my original inspirations and I am going to keep these in mind as I move forward with my Illustrations. I've got a pen in my hand and thoughts bubbling in my head so I'm off to see what happens next......

Polzeath

Life does slip by so quickly theses days. One minute your day dreaming in mid April and the next thing you know its the end of June and there are lists and lists of things that need to be done! I am going to try and get my latest work up on here before the madness of the English Summer Time Begins.

My work has been evolving a lot lately and there are many ideas going into my drawings. I am trying to ground myself and tie myself down to one place for the summer. Cornwall, mainly Polzeath is that place and the biggest inspiration in my work. I want to share my thoughts in the form of sewn lines and maybe a list or two of this beautiful place that turns from a gentle and calm, quiet seaside village in the winter to the chaos, madness and glory of the of this little place when the schools close and summer begins to shape the way things run around here. I couldn't say which side of Polzeath i prefer as one comes hand in hand with the other and without each, the calm and the madness, Polzeath would not be what it is to me.

Keep checking back for my new work, it will be here soon!
